Greg "Do The" BumpGot back from 'nam. Got a '62 Fender Precision and an Ampeg SVT with all-tube 6146 B head rated at 300 watts. Bi-amped to 2 matching SVT-215E "refrigerator/freezer" cabinets. Ampeg SBT preamp at 240 watts. Sunn 2-15 SH 2x15" bass speaker cabinet. Rated at 160 watts, but I juiced it up to run at around 1400 watts. The first time I cranked it up, it killed my next door neighbor.I was dating a chick from Cleveland, for about 10 years at the time. Can't remember her name. Joined country gospel band called Saddle Soul. We played the black rodeo circuit, but didn't get much work. Got fired for a lewd incident involving a horse and some of the backup singers. Traded my Pet Rock collection and a wrecked VW Microbus for a Rickenbacker 4001S Jetglo stereo Rick-O-Sound 20 fret laquered maple fingerboard w/pearl "wedge" inlays. Married one of the backup singers around that time. I think her name was Sharon or Sheila. Might have had some kids too. Joined a funk band that played opera called the Funk-a-Cello. We played the summer amusement park circuit until I got fired for another incident involving a horse. Joined a reggae band in the 80s that played nothing but Neil Sedaka called the Notty Neil. Picked up a B.C. Rich NJ Series Mockingbird, metallic pink and purple plated hardware, 23 fret rosewood fingerboard with custom pearl "smiley" inlays. Moved back to the place where I grew up -- some town near Orlando, not sure of the name. Joined a Kiss cover band called Kiss This. Married the manager, Cleo or Linda or something like that. Realized 2 weeks later that I was still married to Sherry. They got together and took my house and car, but I got to keep the bass rig which was a good thing. Found a flyer for Reverend Worley's Soul-A-Rama and Massage Parlor. On the way, I met Achilles or Jeff, the lead singer of the Urinals, a death-metal euro-dance band. He had a nice van, and I needed a ride. There was a small accident, and I had to join The Strange Loves, a retro disco Zen blues band. If you know of any bands looking for a bass player, let me know. |
